The facelifted second-generation C4 received the 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder turbo from 2015, available as 110 hp with a five-speed manual or 130 hp with a six-speed manual or EAT6 automatic. The engine brought better fuel economy than the outgoing 1.6 VTi it replaced, and the C4 continued to offer a comfortable ride and good cabin space for the compact segment. Reliability is dominated by the well-documented wet timing belt issue that affects all PureTech turbo engines from this era.· more· less

Common Problems
Wet belt demands vigilance, otherwise a practical car
The 1.2 PureTech in the C4 Mk2 carries the same well-known wet timing belt risk as all PSA PureTech turbo engines from this era. With documented service history, annual oil changes using the correct 0W-20 oil, and preventive belt replacement at or before 100,000 km, many owners report trouble-free motoring. The Stellantis extended warranty (10 years / 180,000 km) provides meaningful protection if the conditions are met. Cars used predominantly for short urban trips are at significantly higher risk of belt degradation and oil consumption issues.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Brake vacuum pump failure from timing belt debris (2013-2017 production, 1.2 PureTech 110/130 hp) Critical - verify completed
Starter motor cable contact with exhaust (2014-2017 production) Verify completed
Front suspension loosening (selected 2015-2018 models) Verify completed
Contact a Citroën dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The vacuum pump recall is particularly important as it affects braking assistance. Note that the recall fix was primarily a software update to detect failures earlier, not a belt replacement.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all used C4 Mk2 models
Stellantis PureTech extended warranty 10 years / 180,000 km for timing belt and oil consumption (conditions apply)
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2015-2018 models
The Stellantis extended warranty for PureTech engines covers 100% of parts and labor for timing belt degradation and excessive oil consumption, provided the car was serviced according to the manufacturer schedule. Diagnosis and repair must be performed through the authorized dealer network. If you previously paid for these repairs between January 2022 and December 2024, you may claim compensation through the Stellantis online platform.
