The second-generation C3 Aircross is Citroën's affordable compact SUV, available with up to seven seats on Stellantis's Smart Car platform. The Hybrid 136 pairs the new chain-driven 1.2 PureTech Gen3 engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system and the e-DCS6 dual-clutch automatic from Punch Powertrain, allowing electric-only driving for short stretches in urban traffic. It eliminates the infamous wet timing belt of its predecessor, but introduces a new gearbox that has attracted significant early complaints across the Stellantis range.· more· less

No more wet timing belt (chain-driven) Comfortable ride and practical interior
e-DCS6 gearbox teething problems Multiple recalls on early production
Buy if: You want a spacious, affordable compact SUV with mild-hybrid efficiency and can wait for a post-2025 production car with updated gearbox software.
Avoid if: You need proven long-term reliability right now, as the e-DCS6 gearbox is still being refined and independent garage support for this hybrid drivetrain is limited.

Common Problems
Improved engine, but new gearbox needs maturing
The switch to a chain-driven Gen3 PureTech engine eliminates the infamous wet timing belt that plagued the Mk1. This is a significant improvement. However, the e-DCS6 dual-clutch gearbox from Punch Powertrain is still being refined, with early production models showing high intervention rates for jerking, clutch wear, and protection-mode lockups. Stellantis has responded with multiple software updates and acquired full control of Punch Powertrain in 2025 to address quality. Later production cars (MY2025+) with updated software show markedly lower fault rates. The engine itself appears solid once past the early camshaft bolt issue (fixed from February 2024). Multiple recalls affect this model, so thorough VIN checking is essential.

Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
High-pressure fuel line loose nuts (GJ6) — March 2024 to April 2025 production, fire risk from fuel leak Verify completed
GPF/BSG insufficient clearance (48V hybrid) — 2023-2025 production, fire risk from electrical arcing in wet conditions Verify completed
Brake pedal box assembly (RHD models) — early 2025 production, stop-drive notice for potential brake loss Verify if applicable
Power steering harness routing (GW9) — 2025 production, fire risk from short circuit due to vibration damage Verify completed
Camshaft sprocket bolt (Gen3 PureTech) — 2023 to Feb 2024 production, timing slippage risk Verify completed
BCM software error — April 2024 to May 2025 production, incorrect speed limit display on instrument panel Verify completed
This is a new model with an unusually high number of early recalls. Contact Citroën with the VIN to verify every recall has been completed before purchase. The fuel line, GPF/BSG, and steering harness recalls are safety-critical. The brake pedal recall primarily affects right-hand-drive (UK) models.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) May still apply on 2024+ cars depending on purchase date
Citroën We Care extended warranty Up to 8 years / 160,000 km with annual dealer servicing
48V hybrid battery warranty 8 years / 160,000 km
Rust perforation warranty 12 years from first registration
The standard Citroën factory warranty is 2 years with no mileage limit. From January 2025, Citroën introduced the 'We Care' programme which extends powertrain coverage up to 8 years or 160,000 km, provided the car is serviced annually at an authorized Citroën dealer. This covers engine, gearbox, and hybrid components. Given the number of early recalls on this model, keeping servicing at a Citroën dealer is strongly recommended to maintain eligibility.
