2014-2018 · 1.6 BlueHDi (100/120 hp) DV6 turbodiesel with AdBlue

The second-generation C4 is a comfortable, fuel-efficient French hatchback that shares its DV6 diesel engine with half the PSA range. The 1.6 BlueHDi (Euro 6, with AdBlue) replaced the earlier HDi from around 2014 and is a proven workhorse capable of high mileage when maintained, but the emissions equipment adds complexity and cost.

Excellent fuel economy (4-5 L/100km) Comfortable ride, refined cabin
AdBlue system failures are costly DPF clogs on short-trip driving
Buy if: You drive mostly motorway and longer journeys, and can verify AdBlue system health and complete service history.
Avoid if: You primarily make short urban trips (DPF clogging) or want minimal emissions-system complexity.
Expected Annual Maintenance Costs
€750 - €1,500/year

Common Problems
Durable engine, but emissions equipment adds risk
The DV6C 1.6 diesel is a proven workhorse that can reach 250,000+ km with regular oil changes. The main cost risks come from the Euro 6 emissions equipment: AdBlue system, DPF, and EGR valve. These are well-documented issues with known fixes. Cars used for regular motorway driving fare significantly better than short-trip urban cars. Verify the AdBlue service campaign cap has been fitted, check for DPF warning history, and ensure oil changes have been done at or below the recommended intervals.
