The C4 Picasso Mk1 brought distinctive French MPV design to the compact segment, competing with the Renault Scenic and Volkswagen Touran. The 1.6 THP petrol option used the BMW/PSA-developed Prince engine (EP6DT), the same unit found in the Mini Cooper S, DS3, and Peugeot 207/208 GTi. Available from 2008, it offered 150-156 hp with reasonable fuel economy for a petrol MPV. Offered with a 5-speed manual or the EGS 6-speed automated manual gearbox.· more· less

Common Problems
High-maintenance engine requires strict servicing and proactive repairs
The EP6DT Prince engine in the C4 Picasso Mk1 is widely regarded as a demanding powertrain. Timing chain, turbo, high-pressure fuel pump, and carbon buildup are all well-documented failure areas, with the timing chain being the most critical. Pre-2012 cars are most at risk. Short oil change intervals (every 10,000 km or annually with quality 5W-30 synthetic), preventive diverter valve replacement, and regular intake valve cleaning all help extend component life. EGS gearbox models add another layer of risk. Manual gearbox versions are notably more reliable. A well-maintained example with a recently replaced timing chain and full service history can provide acceptable service, but deferred maintenance on these engines tends to cascade into expensive compound failures.
