The first-generation Citroën C4 brought distinctive styling and a comfortable ride to the compact class. The 1.4 16V petrol uses the well-known TU3JP-based KFU engine, a simple and cheap-to-maintain unit shared with the Peugeot 206 and 207. With just 88 hp it is best suited to urban and suburban driving. Build quality improved noticeably from the 2008 facelift onwards, making later production cars more dependable overall.· more· less

Common Problems
Affordable to run, but head gasket and electrics need attention
The 1.4 16V TU3JP engine is a fundamentally simple and long-lived unit, but the head gasket oil leak weakness is well documented and should be expected on higher-mileage examples. Electrical issues are par for the course with PSA vehicles of this era. Parts are inexpensive and widely available, so even when problems occur, repairs tend to be affordable compared to German or Japanese alternatives. Post-2008 facelift cars are generally more dependable.
