Common Problems
Strong powertrain, but immature service ecosystem
The BYD Tang's Blade Battery and dual-motor powertrain are proving robust in early ownership data, with battery degradation of 8-12% at 100,000 km consistent with LFP expectations. Motor and inverter failures remain rare. The main ownership risks are software instability, 12V battery failures, suspension wear from the heavy 2,705 kg body, and the limited European service network. BYD's generous warranty (6 years/150,000 km vehicle, 8 years/250,000 km battery) provides good protection for early-life issues, but parts availability and dealer expertise are still developing compared to established European brands.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Drive motor controller malfunction (Tang series 2015-2017 production, China market) Verify if applicable
Battery pack tray water ingress risk (Tang DM 2021-2022, China market) Verify if applicable
BYD pan-European software update for 12V charging management Verify completed
Most documented BYD Tang recalls have been issued through China's SAMR regulator and primarily affect earlier production Tang models (2015-2022 PHEV/DM variants). European-market pure electric Tang models from 2021-2024 have fewer formal recalls, but software updates addressing charging and infotainment issues are ongoing. Contact a BYD dealer with the VIN to verify all applicable recalls and service campaigns have been completed.
Warranty Status
Vehicle warranty (6 years / 150,000 km) Many 2021-2022 models still covered; 2023-2024 fully covered
Battery warranty (8 years / 250,000 km) All European Tang models covered (70% SoH guarantee)
Electric drivetrain (8 years / 150,000 km) Covers motor and motor controller
Paint defects (3 years / unlimited km) Expired on early 2021 deliveries

BYD offers one of the most comprehensive warranty packages in the European EV market. The 6-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and 8-year/250,000 km battery warranty (upgraded from 200,000 km in January 2026, retroactive to all existing owners) provide strong coverage. Warranty transfer to subsequent owners requires documented service history performed to BYD's official schedule.
