The DiLink 5.0 infotainment system has several documented issues in early production Sealion 7s. The sound system occasionally goes completely silent, cutting not just music but also navigation prompts, parking sensor beeps, and speed warnings. This is caused by an audio processing module hang, often triggered by simultaneous Bluetooth and wireless CarPlay/Android Auto connections. A hard reset (holding the power/volume knob for 10 seconds) temporarily resolves it. BYD has been rolling out OTA updates (v1.2 and later) to address this, but the update process itself has been problematic, with confusing version numbering and missing changelogs. The infotainment can also freeze or become unresponsive, requiring a factory reset. Most of these issues resolve under warranty. Out of warranty, a head unit replacement costs €420-950 if the software fix fails, and ADAS recalibration after firmware updates can add €120-260.

Some owners report a yellow 'Power Limited' warning on the instrument cluster during highway driving, accompanied by a noticeable reduction in available power. This is a software logic error in the Power Domain Control module, where sensor communication between the high-voltage battery and motor controller loses synchronisation. It is not a hardware failure. Stopping the car and restarting ('power cycling') clears the error in most cases. A permanent fix requires a firmware update at a BYD service centre to recalibrate sensor communication thresholds. This is typically covered under warranty. The issue appears to affect a minority of cars and BYD has been addressing it through OTA and dealer updates.

The Sealion 7's ADAS suite has overly aggressive tuning in several areas. The automatic emergency braking (AEB) can trigger phantom braking in congested traffic, particularly around motorcycles or pedestrians at junctions. The fatigue monitoring system's infrared camera is strict enough that looking at the side mirror or wearing certain sunglasses triggers warnings. Lane keeping assist applies strong steering corrections in areas with unclear lane markings or construction zones. These are software calibration issues that BYD is addressing through OTA updates. The Design AWD trim is rated for 150 kW DC fast charging, but real-world testing shows average charging power of approximately 115 kW during a 10-80% session, resulting in about 32 minutes to reach 80%. The charging curve drops noticeably above 50% state of charge. Cold weather further reduces charging speed, though BYD's battery preconditioning system helps mitigate this. The 800V architecture does support faster charging, but the Design trim's battery management is more conservative than the Excellence trim (which supports 230 kW peak). This is not a defect but a design characteristic. No repair cost is involved.

BYD electric vehicles, including the Sealion 7, have a documented tendency for 12V auxiliary battery drain. The issue stems from certain software modules or the vehicle-to-load (V2L) control module failing to enter low-power sleep mode after the car is turned off. App connectivity features can also draw significant power from the 12V system. When the 12V battery voltage drops low enough, a charging cycle from the main pack kicks in, which can run for over an hour. In more severe cases, the 12V battery can drain completely, preventing the car from starting. BYD has acknowledged this issue across its range. Multiple reviewers and owners have noted front suspension noise, described as a constant low-level grumbling or knocking over uneven surfaces. The Auto Express long-term test specifically noted that the spring rates appear too soft relative to the damper settings, causing body roll in corners while still transmitting bumps harshly. Some owners in other markets reported abnormal front suspension noises that required multiple workshop visits to resolve. At the vehicle's 2,400+ kg kerb weight, suspension components are under significant stress. If bushings, top mounts, or dampers need replacement, costs range from €200 for bushings to €600-800 for damper replacement. Most issues in early production have been addressed under warranty.

BYD operates three parts warehouses in Europe (Netherlands, Sweden, UK) but the dealer network is still expanding. Wait times for specific parts can be longer than established brands. BYD states resolution times average 3 working days, but complex repairs or uncommon parts may take longer. This is not a mechanical fault but an ownership cost factor: longer repair times mean more days without the car, potential rental costs, and limited choice of independent specialists who know BYD systems. As BYD's European presence matures (the brand sold over 37,000 vehicles in Europe in early 2025 alone), this situation is improving rapidly.
