The BYD Seal U DM-i Comfort is a competitively priced plug-in hybrid compact SUV that undercuts established European rivals by a significant margin. It pairs a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 145 kW electric motor and a 26.6 kWh LFP Blade Battery, delivering up to 125 km of electric-only range (WLTP). The e-CVT transmission has no conventional gearbox, which simplifies the drivetrain considerably compared to European PHEVs with dual-clutch units.· more· less

Common Problems
Mechanically simple, but software maturity and service access are concerns
The DM-i powertrain itself is mechanically straightforward with fewer failure points than European PHEV systems using dual-clutch transmissions. The LFP Blade Battery shows excellent durability in early data, retaining over 90% capacity after 200,000 km. However, BYD's European presence is still in its early stages: the dealer network in Germany has grown from 27 to around 120 locations, but parts availability and service expertise remain developing areas. Software immaturity affects the infotainment experience, and owners have reported long wait times for parts and repairs. Most mechanical issues are minor and covered under the generous 6-year/150,000 km warranty, but owners outside warranty should budget for the unpredictable nature of a new market entrant.

BYD offers one of the most comprehensive warranty packages in Europe. The 6-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty is transferable to subsequent owners. Warranty requires servicing at authorized BYD centres. Given the car's 2024+ production date, most used examples will still be within the full factory warranty.
