BYD's plug-in hybrid compact SUV for Europe, launched mid-2024 with strong standard equipment and competitive pricing. The DM-i Super Hybrid system pairs a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine with an electric motor and an 18.3 kWh LFP Blade Battery, offering around 80 km of electric range. As one of the first mass-market Chinese PHEVs sold in Western Europe, ownership data is still limited, but early reports highlight software teething issues and a service network that is still developing.· more· less

Common Problems
Limited track record, but mostly minor issues so far
The BYD Seal U DM-i Boost has been on European roads for less than two years, so long-term reliability data is sparse. The DM-i hybrid system has a longer track record in China where millions are in use, but European conditions (colder climate, different charging infrastructure, salt roads) present additional challenges. Most reported issues are software-related and addressed via OTA updates or warranty repairs. The 1.5L engine itself appears robust with no widespread mechanical failures reported. The main ownership risk is BYD's still-developing European service network, which can mean longer wait times for parts and limited independent garage support.
