BYD's first volume electric car in Europe, the Atto 3 (known as Yuan Plus in China) brought competitive pricing and BYD's in-house Blade Battery to the compact SUV segment from late 2022. The Standard Range uses a 49.9 kWh LFP pack with 345 km WLTP range and a 150 kW front motor. Build quality improved noticeably across production years, but the thin European dealer network and software maturity remain the main ownership headaches rather than mechanical reliability.· more· less

Common Problems
Solid drivetrain, but software and build quality need patience
The Atto 3's core powertrain and Blade Battery are proving robust, with no significant motor or battery failures reported across global markets. The main ownership frustrations are software-related: infotainment bugs, 12V battery management, and ADAS calibration. Build quality improved across production years, with 2024 models noticeably better than early 2022 examples. BYD's 6-year vehicle warranty and 8-year / 250,000 km battery warranty provide strong coverage for used buyers, though the still-developing European dealer network can slow down warranty repairs.

Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Steering column controller fire risk (Nov 2022 - Dec 2023 production, China-market recall) Verify with VIN
ADAS software update for Euro NCAP safety compliance (2022 model year) Verify completed
The steering column controller recall (Sep 2024) was officially limited to Chinese-market vehicles, but BYD has not confirmed whether European-delivered cars use the same component batch. Contact BYD Europe with the VIN to verify. The ADAS safety update is critical for 2022 model year cars and should be confirmed as installed.
Warranty Status
Vehicle warranty (6 years / 150,000 km) Active on most used Atto 3s (earliest cars expire 2028)
Battery warranty (8 years / 250,000 km, min. 70% SOH) Active on all Atto 3s until at least 2030
Anti-perforation warranty (12 years) Active on all Atto 3s
Paint warranty (3 years) Expired on 2022 models, active on 2023-2025
BYD's European warranty is among the most generous for EVs: 6 years / 150,000 km on the vehicle and 8 years / 250,000 km on the Blade Battery. The warranty transfers to subsequent owners. Verify remaining coverage with a BYD dealer using the VIN before purchase.
