The vehicle's software modules sometimes fail to enter low-power sleep mode after shutdown, causing a parasitic drain on the small 12V battery. BYD's charging system also delivers only around 13.8V to the 12V battery, below the 14.4-14.8V absorption voltage needed for proper charging. This leads to premature sulfation and shortened battery life, with some owners needing replacement within 18-24 months. BYD has released OTA updates that check the 12V battery more frequently and charge it for longer periods. A quality trickle charger (e.g., CTEK MXS 5.0) is recommended if the car sits for more than a week between drives. Replacement cost for the 12V battery is around €150-250 including labor.

Owner forum polls from BYD's Atto 3 (same platform) suggest roughly 30% of owners experienced some software glitch within the first six months. Symptoms include the central screen becoming slow, freezing mid-operation, or randomly restarting. The Boost's larger 12.8-inch rotating screen uses the same underlying software as the Active's 10.1-inch unit. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections can be unstable. Most issues are resolved via OTA software updates, and BYD has been actively pushing fixes. A manual workaround is holding the volume-down button on the steering wheel for 10-15 seconds to force a reboot. While annoying, this is rarely a safety concern since climate and driving functions operate independently of the infotainment system. Common sources of interior noise include the dashboard near the A-pillars, the panoramic sunroof mechanism, and door panel trim pieces. BYD's Advanced Driver-Assistance System can be overly aggressive in certain situations. Owners report sudden braking for shadows, roadside vegetation, or oncoming traffic on curved roads. Forward collision warnings can trigger in clear traffic, and Lane Keep Assist can feel jerky. Euro NCAP gave BYD's intelligent adaptive cruise control a 'Not Recommended' score on the Atto 3, which shares the same ADAS hardware and software. The Boost includes additional ADAS features compared to the Active (adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring), which provides more opportunity for false alerts. Sensitivity can be reduced in the vehicle settings menu, though these sometimes reset after each ignition cycle. BYD has improved ADAS behavior through successive OTA updates. The Boost trim's 65 kW maximum DC charging rate is already modest compared to competitors offering 100 kW or more. In cold weather (below about 15 degrees C), the LFP battery's charging speed can drop to 30-50 kW even at a powerful charger, because LFP cells are more sensitive to temperature than NMC chemistry. No BYD model sold in Europe currently has automatic battery preconditioning for fast charging, which is a significant limitation compared to competitors from Hyundai, Volkswagen, or Tesla. The charging curve also tapers early: peak speeds are typically reached between 10-40% state of charge, and above 60% speeds drop noticeably. Pre-conditioning the battery by driving at highway speed for 20-30 minutes before charging helps significantly. In most cases this is a characteristic of the technology rather than a fault, but if charging consistently fails to reach expected speeds even in warm conditions, the charging port contacts or onboard charger module may need inspection (covered under warranty for 6 years).
