Symptoms include slow dashboard startup, random error messages, infotainment restarts, or complete failure to unlock via the app. The main high-voltage battery should automatically top up the 12V system, but this process can fail if the car enters deep sleep. Common on earlier production runs. BYD has issued software updates addressing sleep-mode behavior. Replacement of the 12V battery itself costs around €120-260 including labor. A loose battery terminal connection (accessible below the passenger seat) has also been identified as a contributing factor in some cases.

Owner surveys on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 models suggest over 30% of owners experienced software glitches within the first six months. Common symptoms include the central screen freezing (especially on hot days or when running multiple apps), Bluetooth and CarPlay/Android Auto dropping connection, and user profiles resetting after OTA updates. A system reboot (holding the power button) usually resolves immediate freezes. BYD has been active with OTA updates, and stability has improved with each software version. Multiple reviews and owner reports describe the Lane Keep Assist as overly aggressive, with the system making violent steering corrections on clear roads. Some owners report charging sessions stopping prematurely, especially during rain or with specific wallbox brands. Causes include moisture in the charging socket contacts, earthing issues with the home installation, and onboard charger (OBC) firmware needing an update. The single-phase AC onboard charger limits AC charging to 7-11 kW, which is slower than some competitors offering three-phase charging. Cross-testing with a different cable or wallbox often resolves the issue. If the OBC control module itself requires repair, costs can reach €250-350 including diagnosis.

As a budget-oriented vehicle, the Dolphin Surf's interior trim can develop rattles, particularly near the A-pillars and door panels.
