The BYD Seal's DC fast charging peaks at around 135 kW in real-world conditions despite a 150 kW rating. The charging curve tapers notably above 40% state of charge, and above 60% speeds drop to around 70 kW. In cold weather, LFP battery chemistry limits charging to 30-50 kW if the battery is below approximately 15 degrees Celsius. Some owners report communication errors and failed session starts at certain charger brands, typically resolved through OTA software updates improving charger compatibility. Charging from 10-80% typically takes 37 minutes, which is slower than 800V competitors like the Hyundai Ioniq 6. The cost entry reflects potential diagnostic visits for persistent charging faults, though most issues are software-related and resolved under warranty.

Multiple BYD Seal owners have reported rattling noises from the driver's side door panel, dashboard near the A-pillar area, and occasionally from the steering column vicinity. These are typically caused by trim clips not being fully seated during assembly or panel edges vibrating against the frame. The issue appears more common on early production cars (late 2023 and early 2024 European deliveries). Dealers have addressed these by adding felt tape or repositioning clips. While cosmetically annoying, these are not structural concerns. Build quality has reportedly improved on later production runs.

The 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen can experience occasional freezes, lag when switching between apps, and Bluetooth/Wi-Fi handshake failures with smartphones. Some owners report the system forgetting saved driver preferences (mirror positions, climate settings) after the car is turned off. OTA updates have progressively improved stability, and a factory reset through System > Version > Factory Reset typically resolves persistent issues. The voice control system has been criticized for being slow and requiring repeated confirmation. Most software issues do not require dealer visits and are addressed through periodic OTA updates.

Like many EVs, the BYD Seal relies on a 12V auxiliary battery to activate the contactors connecting the main traction battery. If the DC-DC converter does not adequately maintain the 12V battery charge, or if the car sits unused for two or more weeks, the 12V battery can deplete. This leaves the entire vehicle unresponsive despite a full main battery. The issue has been reported across BYD's EV range (Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal). Replacement cost for the 12V battery is approximately €150-250 including labor. Keeping the car plugged in or driving it regularly prevents this issue. BYD has issued software updates to improve DC-DC converter charging behavior.

Some owners have experienced phantom emergency braking events, especially when approaching roundabouts or passing under bridges. This is a sensor calibration issue rather than a hardware defect. BYD has released OTA updates that significantly reduced the frequency of these events. All ADAS features can be individually disabled through the touchscreen settings if needed. The sensitivity can also be adjusted from early to late intervention. While startling when it occurs, no hardware repair is typically required.

BYD initiated a voluntary recall of all Seal variants in India over a potential issue with individual cells inside the Blade Battery pack. Both the 61.4 kWh and 82.5 kWh packs are included. BYD has not disclosed the specific technical failure mode, but is offering complete battery pack replacement free of charge if diagnostics detect a problem. This recall has not been extended to European markets as of early 2026. The Blade Battery uses LFP chemistry, which is inherently more thermally stable than NMC alternatives. Real-world degradation data shows over 95% capacity retention after 50,000 km, and the battery is warranted for 8 years / 250,000 km in Europe.

A small number of owners have reported sudden power system failure warnings with loss of drivetrain power and heavy steering. In documented cases, the cause was traced to a faulty connector on the rear wheel assembly, requiring removal of the rear axle for repair. This is a rare but serious issue when it occurs. The repair is covered under the 6-year / 150,000 km vehicle warranty and the 8-year / 150,000 km e-drive warranty. Outside warranty, the repair involves significant labor due to rear axle removal. Given the car's newness, most affected vehicles will still be within warranty coverage.
