Some owners report that setting a daily charge schedule in the car's settings (even if not actively used) prevents the car from entering sleep mode and keeps the 12V topped up. Owners report the forward collision warning system generating false alerts, particularly when approaching roundabouts (the radar interprets departing vehicles as collision threats) and in parking lots with complex radar environments. This can cause unexpected braking events that are unnerving for the driver and potentially dangerous for following traffic. Most false warnings are software-related and can be improved through OTA updates. However, if a radar sensor or camera requires physical recalibration after a windshield replacement or minor impact, costs can reach €400-800 at a BYD dealer, as ADAS calibration requires specialist equipment.

The Dolphin uses a heat pump for cabin heating, which is more efficient than a simple PTC heater in moderate temperatures. However, below roughly -5 degrees Celsius, heat pump efficiency drops notably. Some owners report software logic issues with the thermal management system, where the heat pump cycles erratically or fails to warm the cabin adequately. Winter range reductions of 15-30% are normal for any EV with LFP chemistry, but a faulty heat pump sensor or controller can make this worse. Most issues are resolved via software updates. If the heat pump compressor or a sensor fails physically, repair costs range from €300-600. The system covers a wide temperature range from -30 to 40 degrees Celsius when functioning correctly.

In winter, moisture can freeze around the charge port locking mechanism, preventing the flap from opening or the connector from releasing. BYD provides a manual release lever under the front bonnet as a fallback. Some owners have also experienced the charge port flap sticking in warmer weather due to a faulty locking actuator. The locking mechanism is a relatively simple component. Applying a silicone-based lubricant before winter helps prevent freezing. If the actuator itself fails, replacement costs are typically under €250 at a dealer.
