BYD's electric compact SUV for Europe, built on the e-Platform 3.0 with a cell-to-body Blade Battery (LFP chemistry). The Design trim gets the larger 87 kWh battery for up to 500 km WLTP range, 140 kW DC charging, and premium equipment including ambient lighting. Spacious interior with 552 litres of boot space. BYD manufactures the battery, motor, and most electronics in-house, which simplifies the supply chain but means the European aftermarket and parts network is still developing.· more· less

Common Problems
Too new for long-term data, but fundamentally sound
The BYD Seal U Design is too new in Europe (launched February 2024) for comprehensive long-term reliability data. The LFP Blade Battery is one of the most durable EV battery chemistries available, with strong degradation characteristics. Known issues are predominantly software-related (infotainment lag, charging compatibility, ADAS calibration) and typical of a new-to-market EV brand. The growing but still limited European service network and parts availability remain the primary ownership risk. BYD's 6-year vehicle warranty and 8-year / 250,000 km battery warranty provide strong coverage.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
CEPS steering controller capacitor (Dolphin/Yuan Plus, China 2024, not confirmed for European Seal U) Verify with VIN
Voluntary battery cell inspection (BYD Seal, India 2025, not extended to European Seal U) Verify if applicable
BYD is a new brand in Europe and recall history for the Seal U is limited. No European-market recalls have been issued specifically for the Seal U as of early 2026. Contact BYD Europe customer service (00800 10203000) or your local BYD dealer with the VIN to verify whether any safety campaigns apply to your vehicle. The Chinese CEPS steering recall affected Dolphin and Yuan Plus models and has not been confirmed for the Seal U, but is worth checking.
Warranty Status
Vehicle warranty (6 years / 150,000 km) Active on all European Seal U models (sales started February 2024)
Blade Battery warranty (8 years / 250,000 km) Active, 70% SoH guarantee, extended from 200,000 km in January 2026
E-drive system warranty (8 years / 150,000 km) Covers motor, inverter, and drivetrain electronics
Anti-perforation warranty (12 years, unlimited km) Covers rust-through of body panels

BYD offers one of the most comprehensive warranty packages in the European EV market. The 6-year vehicle warranty exceeds most European competitors. The battery warranty was extended in January 2026 to 250,000 km (from 200,000 km), retroactively applied to existing owners. Warranty coverage requires servicing at authorized BYD service centers with documented maintenance records. The warranty transfers to subsequent owners if service history is complete.
