The Espace IV was Renault's flagship MPV from 2002, offering genuine 7-seat accommodation with a lower, more car-like driving position than traditional minivans. The 2.0 dCi M9R engine, available from the 2006 facelift onward, delivers strong torque and respectable fuel economy across 130 to 175 hp variants. Values have dropped significantly, making this an affordable way into a large, comfortable family hauler.· more· less

Common Problems
Reliable engine, but body electronics are the weak point
The M9R 2.0 dCi engine is fundamentally robust, with many examples exceeding 200,000 km without major engine problems. EGR and turbo actuator issues are manageable with proper maintenance and regular highway driving. The Espace IV's main weakness lies in its body electronics: the UCH body control module, instrument cluster, and electronic parking brake are all known failure points that require specialist diagnosis. Finding one with a complete service history and having a full diagnostic scan of all modules before purchase is essential.
