Renault's compact family SUV positioned between the Captur and Austral, replacing the Arkana from 2024. Built on the CMF-B platform, the Symbioz uses the E-Tech full hybrid powertrain combining a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated H4M petrol engine with two electric motors and a clutchless dog-tooth gearbox. It can drive short distances on electric power alone and achieves real-world economy of around 4.5-5.5 l/100 km. Common Problems
Too new for long-term data, but shared powertrain offers some reassurance
The Symbioz launched in late 2024, so long-term reliability data does not yet exist. However, the E-Tech 1.6 full hybrid powertrain has been in production since 2020 across the Clio and Captur, giving it several years of real-world feedback. The most serious historical issue with this powertrain, the gearbox oil seal defect affecting early E-Tech cars, was fixed in September 2022 and does not affect the Symbioz since all units were built well after the correction. Remaining concerns are software maturity (infotainment bugs, hybrid transition calibration), 12V battery management, and typical new-model teething issues. Most reported problems so far are low-cost software fixes rather than expensive mechanical failures. The parking brake recall (0EY9) affects nearly all production to date and must be verified as completed.
