The retro-styled electric compact crossover that shares its AmpR Small platform with the Renault 5 E-Tech. Positioned as the more practical, family-oriented sibling, the 4 is 12 cm longer with more boot space and a taller ride height. The 40 kWh battery offers around 300 km WLTP range with a standard heat pump and V2L capability. Production started in spring 2025 at the Maubeuge plant, so long-term reliability data does not yet exist, but early ownership reports mirror the generally positive experience of the closely related Renault 5.· more· less

Common Problems
Very new model with limited data, but no major concerns so far
The Renault 4 E-Tech shares its entire drivetrain with the Renault 5, which has accumulated over 100,000 units since late 2024 with relatively few mechanical issues. The main concerns are software-related (smart charging compatibility, infotainment glitches) and a narrow-batch battery cell recall. The electric drivetrain has no timing belt, no gearbox, no exhaust system. The biggest unknown is long-term battery degradation and heat pump durability, both of which only reveal themselves after several years of ownership. For a brand-new model, the risk profile is reassuringly low.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Battery cell manufacturing defect - anode delamination risk, potential fire (Dec 2025 - Jan 2026 production) Verify completed
Inverter ECU reprogramming - potential startup failure (Sep - Dec 2024 production, primarily R5/A290 but verify R4 applicability) Verify if applicable
Contact a Renault dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The battery cell recall (0F49) is particularly important for cars produced in late 2025 to early 2026.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years, no km limit) Active on most examples (production started spring 2025)
EV drivetrain warranty 8 years / 160,000 km (motor, inverter, onboard charger)
Traction battery warranty 8 years / 160,000 km with 70% capacity guarantee
Paint warranty 3 years
Corrosion perforation warranty 6 years
Most Renault 4 E-Tech models are still within their original 2-year factory warranty. The EV drivetrain and battery carry separate 8-year coverage, meaning the most expensive components (motor, battery, inverter, onboard charger) remain warranted on all current examples. The 70% battery capacity threshold is generous and rarely triggered within the warranty period.
