The Renault 5 E-Tech revives a beloved nameplate as a compact electric city car built on Renault's new AmpR Small platform. It slots into the B-segment alongside the Fiat 500e and Mini Cooper SE, offering a retro-styled body with a 52 kWh NMC battery good for around 300-400 km WLTP. Deliveries began in late 2024, and by end of 2025 over 100,000 units had been produced at the Douai plant in France. As a very new model, long-term reliability data is limited, but early ownership reports and two recalls in the first 18 months give a useful initial picture.· more· less

Common Problems
Very new model with typical first-generation teething issues
The Renault 5 E-Tech is fundamentally a simple EV with a single motor, no gearbox, and regenerative braking that extends brake life significantly. The main concerns are software maturity (charging, infotainment) and two early recalls that affected specific production batches. The drivetrain hardware itself shows no systemic weakness so far. Most issues discovered in the first 18 months of production have been addressed through free software updates or warranty repairs. As a used buy, verify both recalls are completed and check that the latest software version is installed.

Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Inverter ECU reprogramming: incorrect monitoring mode prevents startup (Sep-Dec 2024 production) Verify completed

Contact Renault with the VIN to verify both recall campaigns have been completed. The inverter recall is a quick 30-minute software flash. The battery recall requires physical inspection and potential cell replacement. Both are free of charge at any authorized Renault dealer.
