The first dedicated electric crossover from MINI, built in China by the BMW-Great Wall Motor joint venture Spotlight Automotive. Larger than the Cooper Electric but smaller than the Countryman, the Aceman fills a gap in MINI's lineup with a 54.2 kWh Svolt battery delivering around 300 km real-world range. The platform is entirely new and not shared with any previous MINI, which means long-term reliability data is still limited.· more· less

Common Problems
Too new for a full reliability verdict, but mechanically simple
The Aceman Cooper SE benefits from EV simplicity: no timing chain, no turbo, no exhaust system. The Svolt battery platform is new and unproven over the long term, but the targeted battery cell recall covers the primary known hardware concern. Most reported issues are software-related (charging bugs, infotainment glitches) and are being addressed through over-the-air updates. Build quality has been noted as improved compared to older Oxford-built MINIs. MINI ranked 3rd in J.D. Power's 2026 Dependability Study (168 PP100 vs. industry average 204), though this reflects older models. The primary uncertainty is the long-term durability of the China-built platform and Svolt battery cells, which only time will reveal.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
High-voltage battery cell module defect, fire risk (April 2023 - November 2024 production, KBA 14477R/14611R) Critical - verify completed
Takata airbag inflator (check applicability with VIN) Verify if applicable
The battery cell module recall is the most important verification for any used Aceman. Contact a MINI dealer with the VIN to confirm all recalls have been completed. Multiple RAPEX alerts (0061080900, 0061870800, 0061970800, 0061990800, 0061160900) cover overlapping production periods for the same battery cell issue.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years) Most used examples still within warranty (sold from mid-2024)
HV battery warranty (8 years / 160,000 km) Covers battery capacity above 70% of original
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Standard BMW Group coverage
Most used Acemans are still within their 3-year factory warranty period, as the model only launched in mid-2024. The 8-year HV battery warranty provides long-term protection for the most expensive component. Verify warranty transfer conditions with the selling dealer.
