The largest Mini ever made, sharing its UKL2 platform with the BMW X1 F48 and using BMW's proven B47 2.0-litre diesel. The Cooper D delivers 150 hp and excellent fuel economy (around 4.3 L/100 km combined), making it popular with long-distance commuters in Europe. The B47 is a major improvement over the older N47 but still shares the same chain design and adds the EGR cooler recall as a critical concern for buyers.· more· less

Common Problems
Major recall makes pre-purchase recall check essential
The Mini Countryman Cooper D F60 with the B47 diesel is one of the most efficient Minis ever made, but the EGR cooler fire-risk recall is the single most important pre-purchase check. The B47 itself is a substantial improvement over the N47, with the timing chain at the front of the engine and generally better durability. Diesel-specific issues (DPF, EGR) are most pronounced on short-trip city use; cars with a motorway-heavy history hold up much better. Premature engine mount failure affects all F60 variants. Most issues are manageable with proper maintenance and shorter oil change intervals (every 15,000 km, not 30,000).

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
EGR cooler glycol leak / fire risk (2016-2017 diesel production) Critical - verify completed
Crankshaft position sensor firmware update (2018-2019) Verify completed
Missing crash protection plate near high-pressure fuel pump (2017-2019) Verify completed
Takata airbag inflator replacement (affected production dates vary) Verify completed
Contact a Mini dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The EGR cooler recall is the most critical for the Cooper D, as an unrepaired EGR cooler poses a fire risk. BMW extended warranty coverage to 15 years for this defect on affected vehicles.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years from Nov 2016) Expired on most used F60 models
EGR cooler extended coverage (15 years) May still apply on affected diesels
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2017-2023 models
Extended warranty Available through Mini dealers
Mini extended its EU warranty to 3 years (2+1 programme) from November 2016, which covers all F60 models from new. Most used Countryman F60 models on the market will be outside this warranty. The 15-year EGR cooler extended coverage is a critical benefit for Cooper D owners - verify with the dealer using the VIN.
