The fastest Mini Countryman of the F60 generation, sharing its UKL2 platform with the BMW X1 and X2 M35i. The 2.0-litre B48 turbo produced 231 hp in pre-LCI cars and was boosted to 306 hp from summer 2020 when the JCW received the more powerful B48 unit also used in the X2 M35i. Mechanically similar to the Cooper S ALL4, but higher boost, larger brakes and stickier tires significantly raise running costs.· more· less

Buy if: You want a genuinely quick hot crossover with all-wheel drive and can budget for premium-tier tires, brakes and consumables.
Avoid if: You want lower running costs, prefer a smoother long-distance cruiser, or expect the JCW's running costs to match a regular Cooper S.

Common Problems
Reliable BMW underpinnings, but consumables and torque-loaded parts wear fast
The F60 Countryman JCW shares the B48 engine, ALL4 system and platform with the Cooper S, so the underlying reliability is similar. However, the JCW carries higher torque, larger brakes, grippier tires, and is usually driven harder, so engine mounts, clutches, brakes and tires all wear faster. The oil filter housing remains the most expensive single weak point. Owners who follow shorter oil change intervals (10,000 km), proactively change the transfer case and gearbox fluids, and use premium fuel report comfortably reaching 150,000 km.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Missing crash protection plate near high-pressure fuel pump (2017-2019) Verify completed
Crankshaft position sensor firmware update (2018-2019) Verify completed
Integrated braking system (IBS) module welds may break (selected build dates) Verify completed
Takata airbag inflator replacement (affected production dates vary) Verify completed
Contact a Mini dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The fuel pump crash protection plate recall and the IBS braking module campaign are the most critical for the F60 JCW.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years from Nov 2016) Expired on most used F60 JCW models
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2017-2023 models
Extended warranty Available through Mini dealers
Mini extended its EU warranty to 3 years (2+1 programme) from November 2016, which covers all F60 models from new. Most used Countryman JCW F60 models on the market will be outside this warranty. Third-party extended warranties are available, but check exclusions carefully, particularly for engine mounts, oil filter housing and transmission internals.

Mini Countryman Cooper S ALL4 F60
Mini Countryman Cooper S ALL4 F60 2017-2023
Same B48 engine in lower-state tune. Almost identical mechanical issues but lower wear on brakes and tires due to less boost and softer rubber.
Mini Clubman F54 Cooper S
Mini Clubman F54 Cooper S 2015-2024
Same B48 engine, related platform. Lighter than the Countryman so less wear on consumables, but oil filter housing and engine mount issues remain.
Mini Cooper S F56
Mini Cooper S F56 2014-present
Same B48 in a smaller, lighter hatchback. Lower running costs across the board and no ALL4 system to service.
Audi S3 8V
Audi S3 8V 2013-2020
Similar performance level with quattro. EA888 engine is robust but DSG and consumables match the JCW in cost.
Mini Cooper S R56
Mini Cooper S R56 2006-2013
Previous generation with Prince engine. Far less reliable timing chain and HPFP issues make the F60 JCW a safer used buy.
