The first-generation Clubman offered a longer, more practical Mini with rear barn doors and a side-opening 'Clubdoor'. The Cooper D uses the PSA-sourced 1.6 HDi (DV6TED4) diesel shared with Peugeot, Citroen, and Ford models, producing 110 hp and 240 Nm. This engine is fundamentally different from the BMW N47 diesel used in later Mini diesels. Parts compatibility with Peugeot and Ford models keeps component costs reasonable, though Mini-branded labor rates apply.· more· less

Turbo oil starvation risk on early cars Barn door latches fail frequently
Buy if: You want a practical, economical Mini for longer commutes and can verify the turbo oil feed system is clear and the DPF additive tank is intact.
Avoid if: You mostly drive short urban trips (DPF and EGR issues) or want trouble-free ownership without monitoring the turbo oil supply chain.

Common Problems
Reliable if turbo oil feed system is maintained, but needs monitoring
The PSA 1.6 HDi in the Cooper D is a proven engine found across many manufacturers, capable of 200,000+ km when properly maintained. The critical maintenance item is keeping the turbo oil supply chain healthy: fresh oil at short intervals, tight injector seals, and a clean oil feed pipe. The Clubman-specific barn door latches are a frequent annoyance. Cars that have done regular motorway driving and have short oil change intervals are the safest buys. Short-trip city cars carry significantly higher risk for turbo, DPF, and EGR problems.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Takata airbag inflator (2007-2014 models) Verify completed
Electronic control module water ingress and short-circuit risk (2008-2014 models) Verify completed
Auxiliary water pump circuit board overheating (2007-2011 Cooper S and Clubman S models) Verify if applicable
Contact a Mini dealer with the VIN to verify all open recalls have been completed. The Takata airbag recall is particularly important as it affects all model years of the R55 Clubman.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all R55 Clubman models
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2014 models until 2026
All R55 Mini Clubman Cooper D models are well outside their original 2-year factory warranty. Third-party extended warranty providers may offer coverage, but exclusions for diesel-specific components (turbo, DPF, injectors) are common and should be verified before purchase.
