MINI's first dedicated electric small crossover, built in China on the Spotlight platform shared with the Cooper Electric. The entry-level Cooper E uses a 38.5 kWh battery delivering around 310 km WLTP. Reports so far point to teething software glitches and charging-flap sensor issues rather than mechanical concerns. A targeted battery-module fire recall affects cars built between February and September 2024.· more· less

Common Problems
Promising platform, but early-production software and sensor teething
The Aceman Cooper E shares BMW-developed EV underpinnings and looks mechanically sound. The vast majority of reported issues are software-related and likely to be ironed out with continued OTA updates. The high-voltage battery recall is narrow (Feb-Sep 2024 production) and verifiable by VIN. Plan a thorough software-and-charging check on any used example, and confirm the battery recall has been resolved.
