Diesel-specific risks compound the CR platform's existing weaknesses
The RF7J 2.0 MZR-CD diesel shares all the body and chassis issues of the petrol Mazda 5 CR while adding a full set of diesel-specific risks. The injector seal and oil strainer issue is a known design flaw that was not resolved until the Skyactiv generation. DPF management is below the standard of contemporary competitors, and short-trip use can create a damaging cycle of oil dilution and accelerated engine wear. Cars with documented injector seal replacement, regular motorway use, and frequent oil changes using the correct ACEA C1 specification can deliver reliable service to high mileage.
