2022-presentLast reviewed: April 2026 · How this report is builtApril 2026

2022-present · 2.5 Skyactiv-G (188 hp) 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol, 8-speed automatic, RWD or AWD

Mazda's rear-wheel-drive-based mid-size SUV with a proven naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder. Available primarily in Australia, Japan, and select Asian markets (not offered in Europe), the 2.5 Skyactiv-G is the simplest CX-60 powertrain: no turbo, no hybrid system, no plug-in complexity. The engine has a strong track record from over a decade in the CX-5 and Mazda6, but it sits on the same new platform that gave the PHEV and diesel variants well-documented teething problems with the 8-speed automatic, suspension, and electronics.

Common Problems
Proven engine on a new platform that needed more development time
The 2.5 Skyactiv-G engine itself is one of Mazda's most reliable units, with over a decade of proven service in the CX-5 and Mazda6. However, the CX-60 platform it sits on introduced a new 8-speed automatic, new suspension geometry, and new electrical architecture that all had significant teething problems across early production. Without the PHEV's hybrid system or the diesel's turbo and emissions hardware, the 2.5 petrol is the lowest-risk CX-60 variant. Post-2024 production cars are noticeably improved thanks to numerous software updates and revised suspension components. Verify all TSBs and recalls completed, especially the transmission calibration and steering recall.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Engine failsafe mode shutdown (AP047A, Skyactiv-G 2.5, Mar 2022-Jul 2023 production, 29,470 vehicles) Critical - verify completed
Software issues affecting defroster, seat belt warning, 360-degree view, start-stop (AR058A, Mar 2022-Jul 2024 production, 89,744 vehicles) Verify completed
Power steering increased effort due to gear assembly defect (2024 campaign) Verify completed
Wheel rim assembly issue with potential wheel loss risk (AP012A, Jun-Dec 2022 production) Verify completed
12V battery drain firmware update (AP016A, Sep 2022-Mar 2023 production) Verify completed
The CX-60 has had an unusually high number of recalls and TSBs for a Mazda, reflecting its status as an entirely new platform. The AP047A recall (engine failsafe shutdown) is particularly critical. Contact a Mazda dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls and TSBs have been completed. Request a printout of applied service campaigns.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years / 100,000 km) Check remaining coverage. 2022 cars are now expired.
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Active on all CX-60 models
Paint warranty (3 years) Expired on 2022 models
Early 2022 CX-60 models are now outside their 3-year factory warranty. Given the number of recalls and TSBs, confirm with Mazda whether any goodwill extensions apply to known issues on your specific car. Some TSB repairs may be covered beyond warranty at Mazda's discretion.
