The Long Range RWD is the efficiency champion of the Highland Model 3 lineup, offering up to 702 km WLTP range from a single rear-mounted permanent magnet motor and 75 kWh NMC battery. Available in Europe from late 2024, it shares the Highland's improved interior, double-pane glass, and revised suspension with the AWD variant but weighs roughly 80 kg less. Routine maintenance is minimal thanks to the absence of an engine, gearbox, and exhaust system, and build quality from the Shanghai factory is a clear step up from earlier Model 3 production.· more· less

Very low routine maintenance Excellent range efficiency (702 km WLTP)
Heat pump failures carry over Limited long-term reliability data
Buy if: You want maximum range and efficiency from a well-proven EV platform, and can verify all software recalls have been applied.
Avoid if: You need AWD traction for winter driving, or are uncomfortable buying a car with less than two years of used-market reliability data.

Common Problems
Too new for long-term data, but fundamentally simple and well-proven
The Highland Model 3 Long Range RWD benefits from a drivetrain with very few wear parts, an 8-year / 192,000 km battery and drive unit warranty, and improved build quality over the pre-facelift car. The single-motor RWD configuration is the simplest in the Model 3 lineup. Long-term reliability data is limited since the oldest examples have been on the road for roughly 18 months, but the underlying technology is proven from millions of pre-Highland Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. The main carried-over concern is the heat pump system in cold climates. Most early-life issues (software glitches, suspension settling noises) have been addressed through OTA updates and warranty repairs.

Warranty Status
Factory warranty (4 years / 80,000 km) Active on most used Highlands (2024+ build)
Battery and drive unit (8 years / 192,000 km) Active on all Highlands with min. 70% capacity retention
Body corrosion perforation (12 years) Active on all Highlands
Tesla's factory warranty covers 4 years or 80,000 km for the basic vehicle, including suspension, electronics, and HVAC. The high-voltage battery and drive unit have 8 years / 192,000 km coverage with a minimum 70% capacity retention guarantee. Most used Highland Long Range RWD examples are still within the basic warranty period. Tesla does not sell extended warranties, but third-party providers offer coverage.
