The M32 6-speed manual is a known weak point across many GM vehicles. The 6th gear output shaft bearing is undersized for the loads involved and wears prematurely, producing a whining noise most noticeable in 5th and 6th gear. If ignored, the bearing can collapse completely, damaging the gearbox internals. GM upgraded the M32 with larger bearings and improved oil galleries in mid-2012, so post-2012 production cars are significantly better. GM does not sell the actuator as a separate part, so the official repair is a full turbo replacement at around €1,200-1,500. However, aftermarket actuators are now available and can be fitted by a specialist for €400-600. Gentle driving patterns and short trips accelerate the problem because the actuator does not get exercised through its full range.

The A14NET engine has a PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) check valve integrated into the intake manifold that has a very high failure rate. When this valve fails, boost pressure enters the crankcase, pushing oil past gaskets and seals, causing external oil leaks (particularly at the valve cover gasket), increased oil consumption, and fault codes P0171 (lean mixture), P0299 (low boost), or P1101. The OEM intake manifold replacement costs around €400-600 at a dealer. Aftermarket PCV valve fix kits that replace just the faulty check valve are available for around €50-100 and are widely recommended on owner forums. Replacement intake manifolds from GM have the same design flaw and typically fail again after 50,000-100,000 km.

The A14NET uses an integrated water pump and thermostat housing assembly. Failures typically manifest as coolant leaks, overheating warnings, or poor cabin heating. The integrated design means the entire assembly must be replaced. Parts cost approximately €200-350 depending on OEM or aftermarket, with labor running 3-4 hours. Total repair at an independent garage runs €400-600, while a dealer may charge €600-800. If overheating is allowed to continue, it can lead to head gasket damage, so coolant levels should be monitored closely.

A well-documented issue specific to the 1.4-litre petrol engine in the Zafira Tourer. If the engine produces a squeaking noise that stops when the dipstick is removed, the cause is a failed crankshaft front oil seal (part 25193519). The seal itself is inexpensive (around €15-30), but labor involves removing the timing chain cover, bringing the total repair to €150-400 depending on the shop. While not a safety concern, the noise is persistent and annoying, and a failed seal can allow small amounts of oil to weep externally.

The A14NET engine uses individual coil-on-plug ignition coils that can fail, causing misfires on individual cylinders. The Zafira C instrument cluster is prone to solder joint failures on the circuit board, causing erratic gauge behavior, flickering backlighting, or complete display failure.
