The Zafira Tourer C is Opel's third-generation 7-seat MPV, sharing its platform with the Astra J. The 1.4 Turbo uses the A14NET (140 hp) or A14NEL (120 hp) engine with direct injection and a timing chain. It was sold across Europe from late 2011 until 2019, when the Zafira Life (van-based) replaced it. The petrol variant avoids diesel-specific headaches like DPF clogging and AdBlue but introduces its own concerns around the turbo wastegate actuator, PCV system, and the M32 manual gearbox.· more· less

Versatile 7-seat layout No DPF/EGR/AdBlue complexity
Turbo wastegate actuator wears M32 gearbox bearing weakness
Buy if: You want a petrol 7-seat MPV and can find a post-2012 model with an M32 gearbox that has no whining in 5th/6th gear and full service history using dexos1 Gen 2 oil.
Avoid if: You hear gearbox whining at motorway speeds, the engine squeaks at idle (crankshaft seal), or the service history shows incorrect oil specification.

Common Problems
Decent family car with manageable weak points
The Zafira C 1.4 Turbo is a practical 7-seater that avoids the diesel-specific problems of its CDTi sibling. The main concerns are the M32 gearbox bearing (especially on pre-mid-2012 cars), the turbo wastegate actuator, and the PCV check valve in the intake manifold, all of which are well-documented with affordable specialist repairs available. Post-2012 models with the improved M32 gearbox are the better buy. Using the correct dexos1 Gen 2 oil specification and maintaining regular service intervals significantly reduces LSPI and turbo risks.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Driver airbag inflator degradation (Feb 2011 - Jul 2016 production) Verify completed
Passenger airbag flap deployment failure (2012 models) Verify completed
Second and third row seat belt bolt tightening (Jul 2016 - Feb 2017 production) Critical - verify completed
Roof rail attachment — may detach in rear collision (2011-2019 production) Verify completed
LSPI ECU software update for 1.4 Turbo engine Verify completed
Contact an Opel dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The seat belt bolt recall is particularly critical for cars built between July 2016 and February 2017. The LSPI software update is important for all 1.4 Turbo models — without it, low-speed pre-ignition can cause piston damage.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all Zafira C models
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2014+ models
All Zafira C 1.4 Turbo models are outside their original 2-year Opel factory warranty. Extended warranty options may be available through Opel dealers or third-party providers. The 12-year rust perforation warranty may still be active on later production cars.
