Stellantis' budget-friendly compact SUV, reviving the Frontera name on the STLA Smart Car platform shared with the Citroen C3 Aircross Mk2. The Hybrid 100 pairs a 1.2-litre turbo three-cylinder with a 48V mild-hybrid system and a 21 kW electric motor integrated into the six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Crucially, this Gen3 EB2 engine uses a timing chain rather than the notorious wet belt of earlier PureTech engines, which resolves the most serious reliability concern of its predecessors.· more· less

Common Problems
Improved engine, but new hybrid system and gearbox are unproven
The Frontera Hybrid 100 benefits from the Gen3 EB2 timing chain engine, which eliminates the catastrophic wet-belt failures that plagued earlier Stellantis 1.2 PureTech models. However, the brand-new eDCS6 dual-clutch gearbox and 48V hybrid integration are showing teething problems across the Stellantis range, including jerky shifting and BSG-related recalls. Multiple safety recalls have already been issued in the first 18 months of production. Most recall repairs are straightforward and free of charge, but buyers should verify all have been completed. Long-term reliability data for this specific drivetrain combination is still very limited.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
48V BSG fire risk: insufficient clearance between particulate filter pipe and starter-generator cap (July 2024 - December 2025 production, recall KV7) Critical - verify completed
High-pressure fuel hose leak: loose nuts between pump and rail causing fire risk (July 2024 - April 2025 production, recall KUU) Critical - verify completed
Brake pedal pushrod fracture: loss of service brake (June - August 2025 production, recall KUX, 388 vehicles) Verify if applicable
Front camera module software: ADAS warning messages not displayed (2024-2025 production, recall KVU) Verify completed
The Opel Frontera has had four recalls within its first 18 months of production. Contact an Opel dealer with the VIN to verify all applicable recalls have been completed. The BSG fire risk recall (KV7) and fuel hose leak recall (KUU) are particularly important to confirm before purchase.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) May still apply on 2024-2025 cars depending on delivery date
Paintwork warranty 3 years
Rust perforation warranty 12 years
48V hybrid components Covered under standard factory warranty
Given the Frontera's very recent launch (late 2024), many used examples may still be within the 2-year factory warranty. Verify the exact warranty expiry date with the selling dealer. Recall repairs are always free of charge regardless of warranty status.
