The second-generation Insignia replaced the ageing model A in 2017 with a lighter body, sharper design, and a refined 2.0 CDTI diesel producing 170 hp and 400 Nm. Positioned against the Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo, and Skoda Superb, it serves primarily as a comfortable motorway cruiser popular with fleet buyers. Production ended in 2022 with no direct successor, making remaining examples increasingly affordable on the used market.· more· less

Common Problems
Solid motorway cruiser with emission system complexity
The Insignia B 2.0 diesel is mechanically sound when driven as intended — regular motorway use keeps the DPF and AdBlue systems healthy. The engine itself can exceed 200,000 km with proper oil changes. However, the emission control systems (AdBlue, DPF, EGR) represent the main ownership risk, particularly for cars that have done mixed or urban-heavy driving. Oil leaks are cosmetically common but rarely serious. Budget for emission system maintenance and verify the car has been driven predominantly on longer journeys.

Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all used Insignia B models
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2017+ models until 2029+
Extended warranty availability Available through Opel dealers and third-party providers
All Insignia B models are now outside their original 2-year factory warranty. The 12-year rust perforation warranty may still be active on newer production cars. For high-value emission system repairs, check whether any goodwill contributions are available from Opel given the known frequency of these issues.
