The fastest Astra H variant, powered by the 240 hp turbocharged 2.0-litre Z20LEH with factory-forged pistons and a BorgWarner K04 turbocharger. It came with Brembo brakes, sport suspension with continuous damping control, and the M32 six-speed manual gearbox. Available as three-door GTC or five-door hatchback from 2005 to 2010, it offered serious hot hatch performance at an affordable price and remains popular in the European tuning community.· more· less

Common Problems
Solid engine block, weak gearbox, and age-related maintenance demands
The Z20LEH engine block is the strongest in the Z20LEx family, with factory-forged pistons and a BorgWarner K04 turbocharger that provide genuine durability. Many well-maintained examples exceed 200,000 km without internal engine failure. The primary ownership concern is the M32 gearbox with its well-documented 5th/6th gear bearing weakness, followed by exhaust manifold cracking and valve stem seal wear. At 15-20 years old, all surviving Astra H OPCs need attention to seals, gaskets, and suspension components. Finding an unmolested, well-serviced example is far more important than low mileage. Cars with undocumented modifications often indicate aggressive use and accelerated wear.

Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Takata driver airbag inflator (2005-2010 Astra H, all variants) Critical - verify completed
Exhaust manifold stud torque campaign (selected 2008 production) Verify if applicable
Brake master cylinder contamination from clutch slave cylinder (selected 2004-2007 models) Verify if applicable
The Takata airbag recall is critical and affects nearly 6 million Opel vehicles manufactured 2003-2018. Contact an Opel dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls and service campaigns have been completed. Airbag replacement is performed free of charge at authorized workshops.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all Astra H OPC models
CIM module goodwill replacement Some Opel dealers still replace free of charge (check availability)
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Expired on all models
All Astra H OPC models are well outside their original 2-year factory warranty and 12-year rust perforation warranty. Opel offered free CIM module replacements regardless of age as a goodwill measure, but availability varies by market. Third-party warranty providers may offer limited coverage but typically exclude known issues like the M32 gearbox.

Direct competitor with similar power. The EA113 TFSI has cam follower and carbon buildup concerns but is generally regarded as more refined.
Peugeot 308 GTi
Peugeot 308 GTi 2015-2021
Later generation hot hatch with the 1.6 THP engine. Known for timing chain tensioner and water pump issues. More modern but different era.
Opel Astra OPC G
Opel Astra OPC G 2002-2004
Previous generation with the Z20LET producing 200 hp. Similar turbo-era issues but the F23 gearbox is more robust than the H's M32.
Opel Corsa OPC D
Opel Corsa OPC D 2007-2013
Smaller OPC sibling with the same M32 gearbox weakness. The 1.6 turbo has a known piston 4 cracking problem that the Astra OPC's Z20LEH avoids.
