The Zafira Tourer C is Opel's third-generation 7-seat MPV, sharing its platform with the Astra J. The 1.6 SIDI Turbo uses direct injection and was offered in 136, 170, and 200 hp variants from 2013 onwards, replacing the older port-injected 1.6 in the range. It delivers noticeably more punch than the 1.4 Turbo, but the direct-injection architecture introduces carbon buildup and a small but serious LSPI (low-speed pre-ignition) risk that is absent on the port-injected engines.· more· less

Buy if: You want a powerful petrol 7-seat MPV and can verify the car has been serviced exclusively with Dexos 1 Gen 2 oil since new.

Common Problems
More complex than the 1.4 Turbo, with oil specification critical to longevity
The 1.6 SIDI Turbo is a capable engine that delivers good performance in the Zafira MPV, but its direct-injection architecture introduces the LSPI piston damage risk and inevitable carbon buildup that the simpler 1.4 Turbo avoids. Correct oil specification (Dexos 1 Gen 2) throughout the car's life is essential. Platform issues shared with the 1.4 Turbo variant, such as M32 gearbox bearing wear, boost pipe splitting, oil leaks, and instrument cluster failures, apply equally here. Cars with documented correct oil history, regular spirited driving, and 98 RON fuel are significantly lower risk.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Roof rail mounting failure risk in rear collision (2011-2019 production, 69,556 vehicles worldwide) Verify completed
Driver airbag inflator degradation (Takata, 2003-2018 production, nearly 6 million Opel vehicles) Critical - verify completed
Hill start assist software malfunction (various production dates) Verify completed
Second row seat belt and third row seat bolts insufficiently tightened (Jul 2016 - Feb 2017 production) Verify completed
The Zafira Tourer C has had multiple recalls across its production run. The Takata airbag recall is a critical safety issue affecting nearly all production years. Contact an Opel dealer with the VIN to verify all applicable recalls have been completed. Safety recalls have no time limit and must be performed free of charge.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all Zafira Tourer C models
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2014-2019 models
Extended warranty Third-party options available; verify LSPI/piston exclusions
All Zafira Tourer C models with the 1.6 Turbo are outside their original 2-year factory warranty. Opel's 12-year rust perforation warranty may still be active on later production models. Third-party extended warranties are available but often exclude engine internals on turbo direct-injection engines. Verify coverage terms carefully.
