The C350e was Mercedes-Benz's first plug-in hybrid C-Class, combining the M274 2.0-litre turbo four with an integrated electric motor for a combined 279 hp through the 7G-Tronic Plus automatic. Standard AIRMATIC air suspension and a 6.38 kWh lithium-ion battery provided a refined ride with limited all-electric commuting capability. Production ran from 2015 to 2018 before the facelifted C300e EQ Power replaced it with a larger battery and more electric range.· more· less

Small battery, limited EV range PHEV complexity adds repair costs
Buy if: You want a refined plug-in hybrid saloon and can verify HV battery health and complete service history before purchase.
Avoid if: You cannot budget for potential AIRMATIC and high-voltage battery repairs, or you need more than 20 km of real-world electric range.

Common Problems
Solid base platform, but PHEV systems add significant cost exposure
The W205 C-Class is a well-built car and the M274 engine is reasonably durable with proper oil changes. However, the C350e adds three layers of cost risk that non-hybrid W205 variants do not have: the high-voltage battery is aging past its warranty period, the standard AIRMATIC air suspension has known wear points, and the charging system introduces additional failure modes. Total ownership costs are notably higher than a comparable C200 or C220d. Cars with complete service history and a recent positive battery diagnostic report are the safest purchases.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Steering rack locknut failure (early 2014-2015 production W205) Verify completed
Takata airbag inflator (2014-2018 C-Class) Verify completed
Panoramic sunroof bonding (2015-2017, if equipped with panoramic roof) Verify if applicable
Contact Mercedes-Benz with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The Takata airbag recall is particularly important as it affects a wide production range.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all C350e models
HV battery warranty (8 years / 100,000 km) Expired or near expiry on most 2015-2018 cars. Requires complete service history.
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) May still apply on 2015-2018 models. Contact dealer to verify.
All C350e models are outside their original 2-year factory warranty. The critical question for buyers is the high-voltage battery warranty status: verify the exact production date and current mileage, and ensure the digital service history is complete, as Mercedes may reject warranty claims without it.
