The C350e's relatively small high-voltage battery is now 8-11 years old on most examples. Electric range drops from a NEDC-rated 31 km to as little as 10-15 km in real-world conditions, and eventually the battery may trigger fault codes or refuse to charge. Mercedes-Benz provided an 8-year / 100,000 km battery warranty, but most C350e models are now at or past this limit. A complete dealer replacement runs €10,000-14,000, though specialist hybrid workshops can refurbish or replace the pack for €3,500-7,000. Before buying, test the real electric range and verify whether the battery warranty remains valid. Reduced range alone does not necessarily require replacement, but fault codes, charging failures, or severely depleted capacity do.

AIRMATIC air suspension is standard on the C350e to manage the 100 kg battery mounted beneath the rear axle. The rear air springs are the most common failure point, typically developing leaks after 80,000-120,000 km. Symptoms include the rear sitting lower than the front (especially after sitting overnight) and the compressor running frequently. A single air spring replacement costs €500-900 including labor. If the compressor has been overworked due to a leaking spring, it may also fail, adding €600-1,200. Full system overhaul (both rear springs plus compressor) can reach €2,000-3,000. The M274's PCV (crankcase ventilation) valve is a known weak point across all W205 models with this engine. The internal membrane deteriorates, typically between 80,000 and 100,000 km, triggering the P052E fault code. Symptoms include rough idling, oil mist from the breather, and increased oil consumption. Mercedes-Benz does not sell the valve separately in all markets, sometimes requiring replacement of the entire intake manifold assembly. Independent specialists can often source and fit the valve alone for €800-1,200, while dealer repairs can reach €1,500 due to the labor-intensive access.

The C350e's charging system has several potential failure points. The plastic charging flap on the rear bumper is fragile and can break in cold weather or with rough handling, costing €100-400 to replace (bumper removal required). Water ingress into the charging socket wiring has been reported, particularly on earlier production cars, causing intermittent charging failures. Mercedes modified the design on later cars. The most expensive potential failure is the onboard charger unit itself, which can cost €1,500-2,500 to replace. The M274 intake camshaft adjuster uses an internal locking pin that wears over time, particularly when oil change intervals are stretched. When the pin fails to hold position without oil pressure, a distinctive metallic rattle occurs during the first few seconds after a cold start. The timing chain itself can also stretch if oil changes are neglected. A full timing kit replacement (chain, guides, tensioner, and camshaft adjusters) costs €1,500-3,000 depending on whether one or both adjusters need replacing. The M274's turbo wastegate actuator sits close to the exhaust manifold where repeated heat cycling degrades the rubber diaphragm. When it tears, the wastegate cannot regulate boost pressure properly, triggering the P0299 underboost code and often putting the car into limp mode. Carbon buildup on the wastegate flap can compound the problem. The actuator alone costs €300-500 to replace if caught early. If the turbo internals have been damaged by prolonged running with incorrect boost, a complete turbocharger replacement runs €1,200-1,500 including labor.

The C350e has three batteries: the high-voltage pack, a 12V AGM starter battery under the boot floor, and a small 12V lithium auxiliary battery behind the passenger-side dashboard. The auxiliary battery powers control modules and electronics. When it weakens (typically after 4-7 years), it triggers an 'Auxiliary Battery Malfunction' warning and can cause various electrical glitches, charging confusion, or difficulty starting.
