In Europe, the formal extended warranty has not been consistently applied, and some owners report being refused goodwill coverage despite the same defect occurring. Repair requires a full cylinder head replacement costing €3,000-5,500 depending on the workshop. The CLA 220's lower tune (190 hp vs. 224 hp on the A250) may reduce thermal stress on the valves, but the fundamental design concern is shared. Post-2022 facelift models are believed to have revised valve seat materials, but long-term data is limited.

The 7G-DCT (model 724.0) uses wet multi-plate clutches and a mechatronic unit to manage gear selection. Using high-quality synthetic oil to the MB 229.51 specification and avoiding frequent short trips helps mitigate the buildup. This is more of a gradual maintenance item than a sudden failure, but it can contribute to misfire codes if left unaddressed for very high mileage.
