Symptoms include rough idle, hesitation on acceleration, and slightly increased fuel consumption, typically noticeable after 80,000-120,000 km. Walnut blasting (the standard cleaning method) costs approximately €400-800 depending on the workshop. Many M282 engines run their entire service life with carbon deposits without serious driveability problems, but periodic cleaning can restore performance. The numerous electronic systems (MBUX, keyless entry, alarm, GPS, comfort modules) draw significant standby current even when parked.
