Last-generation diesel Rio, sold in Europe from 2017 until Kia dropped CRDi from the range in 2020. Simple, frugal small diesel built on Kia's proven D4FC/D4FD platform, originally backed by Kia's 7-year/150,000 km warranty. Mostly used as commuter and fleet car, so most examples have been heavily city-driven, which is the worst-case scenario for the DPF and EGR.· more· less

Long Kia 7-year warranty Frugal on long-distance runs
DPF clogs on short trips Injector wear from 80k km
Buy if: You drive mostly highway/long-distance and want a frugal city car with the remainder of Kia's 7-year warranty still active.
Avoid if: You mostly do short urban trips (DPF will clog) or are looking at a high-mileage car without recent injector or fuel pump service records.

Common Problems
Solid diesel for highway drivers, problematic for city-only use
The 1.4 CRDi is mechanically robust and benefits from Kia's strong build quality, but it suffers the typical small-diesel problems when used mostly for short trips. If the previous owner commuted on the highway, expect good reliability. Avoid examples with patchy service history or signs of mostly urban use.
