Kia's compact electric crossover slots below the EV6 and directly replaces the Soul EV in Europe. The Long Range variant uses an 81.4 kWh NMC battery delivering up to 605 km WLTP range, one of the longest in its class. Built on a 400V variant of the E-GMP architecture with a 150 kW front motor, it shares key electrical components with other Hyundai-Kia EVs, including the ICCU charging unit that has drawn scrutiny across the platform.· more· less

Common Problems
Promising but too new for a proven track record
The EV3 benefits from a simple single-motor front-drive layout with no gearbox, no exhaust, and few traditional wear items. Kia's 7-year transferable warranty and the extended 15-year ICCU warranty in Germany provide strong coverage for the main known risk. Most reported issues relate to software (fixable via OTA updates), minor interior quality (rattles), and the platform-wide ICCU concern shared with other Hyundai-Kia EVs. The car is too new for long-term reliability data, so early production quirks are expected. Owners who keep the software updated and maintain the 12V battery should see low running costs.

Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
ICCU firmware update (recall 250036) for charging speed reduction on AC Verify completed
Instrument cluster display delay (KBA ref 16442R, Jun-Dec 2025 production) Verify if applicable
Contact Kia with the VIN to verify all recalls and service campaigns have been completed. The ICCU firmware update is particularly important as it can prevent charging failures. In Germany, the ICCU is now covered under an extended 15-year / 300,000 km warranty.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (7 years / 150,000 km) Transferable to subsequent owners, balance applies from first registration
EV battery warranty (8 years / 150,000 km) 70% capacity guarantee, transferable
ICCU extended warranty (Germany) 15 years / 300,000 km for ICCU-related defects
Kia's 7-year/150,000 km warranty is the strongest in Europe and transfers to used buyers with the remaining balance. The EV battery is separately warranted for 8 years/150,000 km with a 70% capacity guarantee. The ICCU extended warranty of 15 years/300,000 km currently applies in Germany, with other European markets expected to follow. Warranty requires adherence to Kia's service schedule.

Similar reliability profile. Kona had a separate battery fire recall on early production. No ICCU concern but reduction gear bearing wear is documented.
Volkswagen ID.3 Pro 58 kWh
Volkswagen ID.3 Pro 58 kWh 2020-present
Different weak points: early ID.3 software was notoriously buggy. No ICCU concern. Shorter 2-year warranty is a significant disadvantage for used buyers.
Kia Soul EV 64 kWh
Kia Soul EV 64 kWh 2019-2024
Direct predecessor replaced by the EV3 in Europe. Same 7-year warranty. Known for reduction gear bearing wear not reported on the EV3.
