2019-2025 · 1.6 T-GDI G4FJ (204 hp) 4-cylinder twin-scroll turbocharged petrol

The sportiest Ceed in the CD lineup, positioned as a warm hatch below the Hyundai i30 N. The 204 hp 1.6 T-GDI Gamma engine with twin-scroll turbocharger delivers strong mid-range torque from 1,500 rpm and is available with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dry-clutch DCT. Built in Slovakia alongside the rest of the Ceed family, it offers a rare combination of Kia's 7-year warranty and genuine driving enjoyment. Production ended in early 2025 as the Ceed was replaced by the K4.

7-year transferable warranty Strong twin-scroll turbo engine
DCT clutch wear (if equipped) Carbon buildup on intake valves
Buy if: You want a capable warm hatch with Europe's longest warranty, preferably with the 6-speed manual gearbox and full Kia service history.
Avoid if: You mainly drive in stop-and-go traffic with the DCT, or you expect maintenance-free GDI engine ownership without periodic valve cleaning.

Common Problems
Solid warm hatch with manageable maintenance requirements
The Kia Ceed GT's 1.6 T-GDI engine (G4FJ) is a well-established unit shared across multiple Hyundai/Kia models with no catastrophic failure modes. The main ownership concerns are the DCT's dry-clutch limitations in city driving and the GDI carbon buildup that all direct injection engines share. The wastegate loosening is a known Gamma engine characteristic that is inexpensive to address if caught early. Manual gearbox versions avoid the most expensive potential repair (DCT clutch). With Kia's 7-year warranty still active on many examples, this is one of the better-supported warm hatches on the used market.

Paintwork warranty (3 years) Expired on pre-2023 models
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Active on all CD models
Kia's 7-year / 150,000 km warranty is fully transferable and among the best in Europe. Cars from 2019-2020 may have limited remaining warranty, while 2021+ models still have several years of coverage. Annual Kia dealer servicing is mandatory to maintain warranty validity. Since 2019, Kia Germany applies zero tolerance on service intervals.
