The front anti-roll bar drop links and lower arm bushes are known weak points on the Picanto JA. Forum reports consistently describe clunking noises over speed bumps and rough surfaces, typically appearing from 30,000-60,000 km onwards. The lightweight construction and short wheelbase mean suspension components work harder than on larger cars. Drop link replacement is inexpensive at €80-150 per pair including labour. If the lower arm bushes have also deteriorated, replacing both front arms costs €200-400 at an independent shop. In some cases, Kia OEM stabiliser links have failed in under 40,000 km. While this is more of a wear item than a design flaw, it appears earlier on the Picanto than on most competitors.

AC failures are a recurring theme on Picanto JA forums, with complaints often appearing between 40,000 and 80,000 km. The most common root cause is a faulty solenoid coil on the compressor coupling or a blown 10A AC fuse caused by an electrical short in the coupling. In some cases, the compressor itself fails internally, producing rattling or grinding noises before AC output drops. An aftermarket compressor costs around €200-350, with labour adding €150-300 due to the need to evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system. The dryer must also be replaced when fitting a new compressor. Many examples within the 7-year warranty period had this resolved at no cost through Kia dealers.

The G4LA 1.2 engine uses a timing chain with a hydraulic tensioner. The tensioner can lose oil pressure after the car sits overnight, producing a brief metallic rattle for 1-3 seconds on cold start. Kia states this is normal behaviour as long as it remains brief. The 2020 facelift brought a revised tensioner design and updated oil specification. The 1.2 Picanto has widely reported clutch judder issues, particularly noticeable when pulling away from cold or after the car has sat overnight in damp conditions. The four-cylinder layout means one failing coil is less catastrophic than on a three-cylinder engine, where one dead cylinder represents a third of total power.

Multiple Picanto JA owners report interior trim rattles, particularly from the B-pillar area, dashboard, and door panels. The issue tends to worsen with age and mileage as clips loosen. Sources of noise include the seatbelt height adjuster mechanism, loose trim clips, and weather strip vibration.
