Common Problems
Too new for long-term data, but platform risks are known
The EV4 is built on a platform with a documented ICCU weakness, but Kia has responded with revised hardware (from January 2026) and an industry-leading 15-year/300,000 km ICCU warranty. The 12V battery drain is a management issue rather than a failure, and the instrument cluster recall has a straightforward OTA fix. With production starting in March 2025, long-term reliability data is extremely limited. Battery health looks promising based on Kia's 68,000-mile endurance test showing only 5% degradation. The EV4's simpler single-motor FWD layout means fewer drivetrain components to fail compared to AWD E-GMP variants.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Instrument panel display failure due to power management circuit noise (June-December 2025 production, multiple Kia models including EV4) Verify completed
ICCU warranty extension to 15 years / 300,000 km (all E-GMP vehicles, April 2026 announcement) Verify with VIN
The EV4 is a very new model with limited recall history. The instrument cluster display recall affects units manufactured between June and December 2025 and is fixed via an over-the-air software update. The ICCU warranty extension covers all E-GMP vehicles. Contact a Kia dealer with the VIN to verify both items. Additional recalls may be issued as more vehicles accumulate mileage.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (7 years / 150,000 km) Active on all current EV4 models, transferable to subsequent owners
High-voltage battery (8 years / 160,000 km) Active, 70% capacity guarantee
ICCU extended warranty (15 years / 300,000 km) Covers all E-GMP vehicles regardless of ownership history
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Active on all EV4 models
Kia's 7-year/150,000 km warranty is among the strongest in the industry and is fully transferable. All current EV4 models are well within warranty. The ICCU extended warranty provides additional peace of mind for the platform's most significant known vulnerability. The high-voltage battery warranty guarantees at least 70% capacity retention after 8 years or 160,000 km.
