SEAT's largest SUV in plug-in hybrid form, sharing its 1.4 TSI + electric motor powertrain and DQ400e gearbox with the Volkswagen Golf GTE and Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid. The Tarraco e-Hybrid entered production in late 2020 and was discontinued in mid-2024 along with the entire Tarraco range, replaced by the Cupra Terramar. Only available as a 5-seater (no 7-seat option) and front-wheel drive. Popular with company car buyers thanks to low benefit-in-kind rates, so many used examples are ex-fleet.· more· less

Common Problems
Hybrid complexity adds costs to an otherwise solid platform
The 1.4 TSI engine itself is reliable, but the PHEV-specific components (DQ400e gearbox, high-voltage battery management, charging system, 12V power management) introduce failure points not present in the conventional Tarraco. The DQ400e gearbox is the most expensive potential repair and requires specialist knowledge that many workshops lack. Most issues are electronics-related and can be resolved with software updates or module replacements. Cars built from 2021 onward benefit from post-2019 DQ400e revisions, but the HV coolant chiller leak and 12V battery management remain ongoing concerns across the VAG PHEV range. Regular daily charging and occasional combustion engine use help keep the hybrid system healthy.

Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
HV system fuse fire risk (Sep 2020 - Jan 2022, recall 93N9). Insufficient extinguishing sand in fuse could cause arc flash and fire. Critical - verify completed
Fuel tank wall thickness insufficient (Oct 2020 - Feb 2022). Thin wall increases fire risk in collision. Critical - verify completed
Engine design cover detachment (Dec 2020 - Oct 2021). Loose cover could contact hot turbocharger. Verify completed
Rear left door impact absorption (2020-2021). Reduced structural integrity in side impact. Verify completed
Infotainment system software update (recall 91fh-s1). Addresses freezing, black screens, and connectivity failures. Verify completed
The SEAT Tarraco e-Hybrid has several safety-critical recalls. Contact SEAT with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The HV fuse recall (93N9) and fuel tank recall are particularly important for cars built in 2020-2022.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on most used examples
HV battery warranty 8 years / 160,000 km (70% capacity guarantee)
Rust perforation warranty 12 years from first registration
Most used Tarraco e-Hybrids are outside their 2-year factory warranty. The high-voltage battery warranty (8 years / 160,000 km) may still apply on 2021-2024 cars. Verify with SEAT using the VIN whether the HV battery warranty transfers to subsequent owners in your market.
