The sporty FR version of SEAT's popular supermini, offered with two distinct 1.4 TSI engine generations. Pre-2015 cars use the EA111 twincharger (turbo plus supercharger), while the 2015-2017 facelift switched to the simpler and more reliable EA211 EcoTSI with cylinder deactivation (ACT). Both deliver strong performance for the class, but the twincharger variants demand closer scrutiny and more attentive maintenance.· more· less

Common Problems
Engine generation matters more than anything else
Reliability of the Ibiza FR 1.4 TSI depends heavily on which engine sits under the bonnet. The twincharged EA111 (2009-2015) carries real risks around the timing chain, piston integrity (pre-2012), and supercharger clutch. The later EA211 EcoTSI ACT (2015-2017) is a fundamentally simpler and more reliable unit. For all versions, manual gearbox cars are significantly more dependable than DSG-equipped examples. Verify the engine code and service history before committing.
