Common Problems
E-GMP platform risks are known, but the car is too new for a complete picture
The Ioniq 9 AWD inherits the E-GMP platform's well-documented ICCU vulnerability and 12V battery drain tendency, plus the AWD-specific front motor clutch disconnect noise that has affected roughly half of Ioniq 5 AWD owners in German forums. Hyundai has responded with an improved ICCU design and extended warranty coverage (15 years in Germany for older E-GMP models). However, the Ioniq 9 is a first-year production vehicle, which means additional model-specific issues may emerge as more units accumulate mileage. The 5-year unlimited-km EU warranty provides a solid safety net for new buyers. For used buyers, verifying ICCU recall status and keeping the car plugged in when parked are the most important precautions.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
High-voltage battery bus bar short circuit risk (2025-2026 production) Verify completed
Rear suspension fastener loosening (Mar-Jul 2025 production, US Metaplant) Verify if applicable
ICCU software update and inspection (E-GMP platform recall, ongoing) Verify completed
Contact a Hyundai dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The ICCU recall and software update status is particularly important. European-market Ioniq 9 units (Korean-built) may have different recall applicability than US-built units from the Georgia Metaplant.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (5 years, unlimited km) Active on most used Ioniq 9 models (first deliveries 2025)
High-voltage battery (8 years / 160,000 km) Covers battery capacity to minimum 70% State of Health
ICCU extended warranty (15 years / 300,000 km) Confirmed in Germany for Ioniq 5/6; Ioniq 9 uses updated ICCU, covered under standard warranty
Hyundai offers a 5-year unlimited-km warranty in Europe, one of the strongest in the segment. The high-voltage battery carries an 8-year / 160,000 km warranty with 70% capacity guarantee. Hyundai has extended ICCU coverage to 15 years / 300,000 km in Germany for older E-GMP models (Ioniq 5 built before April 2024, Ioniq 6 before September 2024). The Ioniq 9 uses an updated ICCU design, and ICCU issues during the standard warranty period are covered. Used buyers should verify remaining warranty and whether any transferability conditions apply.
