Common Problems
Improved over its predecessor, but new-generation teething issues
The SX2 Kona 1.0 T-GDi benefits from the updated G3LF engine with CVVD technology and improvements to the timing chain components made from 2020 onwards. The 5-year Hyundai warranty covers most issues that arise during early ownership. The main concerns are the 12V battery drain (fixable via software update), DCT gearbox behavior on automatic variants, and the inherited turbo wastegate rattle from the engine family. The iMT manual variant avoids the gearbox issues entirely. As a relatively new model, long-term high-mileage data is limited, but the engine family is well-understood from years of use across Hyundai and Kia models.
