Hyundai i20 N Line BC3

2020-presentLast reviewed: April 2026 · How this report is builtApril 2026

2020-present · 1.0 T-GDI 48V MHEV (100-120 hp) 3-cylinder turbo petrol, 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT

Sporty-styled trim of the third-generation i20, sitting below the full-fat i20 N in the range. Uses the 1.0 T-GDI three-cylinder with 48V mild-hybrid assist, available with 6-speed manual (iMT on some markets) or 7-speed dual-clutch. Generous equipment, Hyundai's 5-year unlimited-km warranty on new cars, and relatively modest running costs make it a popular first-car and city commuter. Most examples are still young enough that long-term wear patterns are only beginning to emerge.

5-year unlimited-km warranty Low running costs for the class
DCT hesitation at low speed 48V stop-start system glitches
Buy if: You want a well-equipped, sporty-looking supermini with remaining factory warranty and a preference for the manual gearbox.
Avoid if: You want a DCT automatic and are not prepared for the fuel pump recall and low-speed hesitation typical of the 7DCT.
Expected Annual Maintenance Costs
€700 - €1,350/year
15,000 km/year
Fixed costs
€450-800
Risk buffer

Common Problems
Young platform with mostly warranty-covered niggles
Most BC3 N Line cars are still inside the 5-year Hyundai warranty, which covers the main risk items - fuel pump recall, DCT software, 48V system and infotainment. Long-term wear patterns on the 1.0 T-GDI and 7DCT are still emerging, but early indicators are better than the older GB generation. The safest examples are manual/iMT cars with the fuel pump recall completed and full service history at a Hyundai dealer.

Factory warranty (5 years / unlimited km) Active on most cars first registered from 2021 onwards
Rust perforation warranty 12 years
48V battery Covered under the 5-year vehicle warranty
Hyundai's 5-year unlimited-km warranty is transferable to subsequent owners and is one of the strongest in the class. Confirm the original registration date and that all servicing has been done at a Hyundai dealer or authorised specialist to keep cover valid.

↔ Also consider

Hyundai i20 N BC3 2021-2024 Full hot-hatch version with 204 hp 1.6 T-GDI and manual only. More power means higher consumables, but the 1.6 is mechanically proven. Avoids the DCT and 48V headaches of the N Line. Hyundai i20 1.0 T-GDI GB 2015-2020 Previous generation with the same 1.0 T-GDI engine family. Timing chain tensioner and warm-restart issues are more advanced on these older, higher-mileage cars. Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost Mk8 2017-2023 Direct rival. 2017 to early 2019 cars have a wet timing belt that can destroy the engine; later builds use a chain. Generally more troublesome than the i20 if belt history is unknown. Volkswagen Polo Mk6 1.0 TSI 2017-present Similar 3-cylinder turbo layout. Polo's DQ200 DSG is a known weak point and warranty is only 2 years versus Hyundai's 5. Seat Ibiza 1.0 TSI Mk5 2017-present Shares engine and platform with the Polo. Similar reliability profile with infotainment glitches and shorter warranty than the Hyundai.
