The third-generation Micra was built at Nissan's Sunderland plant on a shared Renault-Nissan platform from 2003 to 2010. The 1.2 CR12DE four-cylinder was the core engine of the range, producing 65 hp in early models and 80 hp from 2005 onwards. It is a lightweight, fuel-efficient city car with very low running costs and widely available parts. The K12 generation is generally well-regarded among budget superminis of its era.· more· less

Common Problems
Simple and cheap to fix, but several age-related weaknesses
The K12 with the 1.2 CR12DE engine is a straightforward car with no turbo, no DPF, and minimal electronic complexity. The engine itself is robust when maintained with regular oil changes. Post-2005 models have improved timing chain components and are generally more reliable than early production cars. The main concerns are the electric power steering column (the most expensive potential repair), the well-known boot latch water ingress issue, and front coil spring corrosion. All repairs are well-documented and parts are inexpensive. Given the age of these cars (all now 15-22 years old), overall condition and corrosion are the biggest ownership considerations.
