Nissan's hot crossover, often called the 'baby GT-R' for its torque-vectoring AWD system. The Nismo RS is the flagship F15 Juke, powered by a tuned 1.6 DIG-T (MR16DDT) producing 218 hp with the 6-speed manual (FWD) or 211 hp with the CVT (AWD). Quirky styling and a fun driving character earned it a loyal following, though it was always a niche choice against conventional hot hatches.· more· less

Common Problems
Performance variant with turbo and transmission risks that need monitoring
The Nismo RS is a fun and characterful car, but its MR16DDT turbo engine has well-documented timing chain and turbo oil feed issues. The manual FWD version is significantly more reliable than the CVT AWD variant, which adds the substantial risk of CVT failure. With meticulous maintenance (frequent oil changes, quality synthetic oil, regular CVT fluid changes on AWD models), many of these issues can be mitigated. However, buyers should budget for the possibility of at least one major repair during ownership. The valve cover leak and ESP pressure pipe are common but manageable. Overall, the Nismo RS demands more attention and budget than a standard Juke.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Brake master cylinder internal leak (2015-2017 Nismo RS) - brake fluid may leak into booster, reducing braking performance Critical - verify completed
Push-button start switch may stick in pressed position (2013-2014 models) - engine could shut off unexpectedly Verify completed
Fuel pressure sensor not tightened to specification (2012-2014 models) - potential fuel leak Verify completed
Takata airbag inflator replacement (various production dates) Verify completed
Contact a Nissan dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The brake master cylinder recall (2015-2017 Nismo RS) is particularly critical as it directly affects braking performance. Verify this has been addressed before any test drive.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years / 100,000 km) Expired on all Nismo RS models
Rust perforation warranty (6 years) Expired on all 2014-2018 models
CVT extended warranty (AWD models) 10 years / 200,000 km in some markets - check with Nissan
All Juke Nismo RS models are outside their original 3-year factory warranty. If the car has the CVT AWD drivetrain, check with a Nissan dealer whether the extended CVT warranty applies in your market. Third-party extended warranties are available but typically exclude pre-existing transmission and turbo faults.
