The fifth-generation Micra brought the nameplate back to competitiveness in Europe. Built in France on a shared Renault-Nissan platform, the 0.9 IG-T uses the Renault-developed H4Bt three-cylinder turbo, shared with the Clio IV, Dacia Sandero, and Smart ForFour. Available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox, it is an efficient and affordable city car that handles well for its class.· more· less

Common Problems
Reliable for its class, but engine has finite design lifespan
The Nissan Micra K14 0.9 IG-T is a competent city car with manageable running costs. The H4Bt engine is reasonably robust when serviced properly, but has a design lifespan of around 150,000 km. Beyond that point, rod bearing wear, timing chain stretch, and turbo issues become increasingly likely. Sticking to shorter oil change intervals (10,000-15,000 km rather than 20,000 km) is the single most effective preventive measure. The manual-only gearbox eliminates the CVT reliability concerns that affect the 1.0 IG-T variant.
