The Smart #5 Brabus is the performance flagship of the reborn Smart brand, jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and Geely. Built on Geely's SEA platform with 800V architecture, it delivers 475 kW (646 hp) from dual motors and charges at up to 400 kW. It earned Euro NCAP Best in Class for Large SUVs in 2025. The Brabus badge here means straight-line speed rather than handling finesse, as the suspension is essentially unchanged from the standard car despite the massive power increase.· more· less

Ultra-fast 800V charging (400 kW) Strong safety (Euro NCAP Best in Class)

Buy if: You want a fast, well-equipped electric SUV with class-leading charging speeds and can live with the soft ride character despite the performance badge.
Avoid if: You expect a sports SUV experience from the Brabus name, need long real-world range, or are uncomfortable with a first-generation model from a reborn brand with a limited dealer network.

Common Problems
First-generation performance EV with evolving software, limited long-term data
The Smart #5 Brabus is a brand-new model on a relatively new platform, which means long-term reliability data simply does not exist yet. The SEA platform's track record from the #1 and #3 shows a pattern of software teething issues that Smart has been addressing through OTA updates, plus some hardware concerns with door handles and motor preparation on early Brabus production. The 800V architecture and CATL battery cells are modern and well-specified. The main uncertainties are how the dual-motor drivetrain ages beyond warranty and whether the software matures to match the hardware. The 3-year included maintenance package covers early ownership, but buyers should budget for higher-than-average tire costs given the 21-inch wheels and vehicle weight.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Smart #1 and #3 battery thermal runaway risk (China, 2022-2023 production). Unclear if European #5 uses same battery configuration. Verify with VIN
Rear left seatbelt lock may open under specific driving conditions (Smart #1/#3 platform, may apply to #5) Verify if applicable
Brabus front motor pre-delivery preparation (software update + hardware modification required before first drive) Verify completed
The Smart #5 is very new to market, so the recall history is still developing. Contact Smart with the VIN to verify all applicable campaigns have been completed. Pay particular attention to the Brabus-specific pre-delivery preparation, as incomplete work caused permanent motor damage on earlier Smart Brabus models.
