The Smart #3 is a compact electric crossover coupe built on Geely's SEA platform, jointly developed with Mercedes-Benz. It slots above the smaller #1 as a stylish, tech-laden family EV with a 66 kWh NMC battery, 272 hp rear motor, and up to 435 km WLTP range. Build quality and driving dynamics are well-regarded, though the software and some hardware details betray a first-generation product that is still maturing through over-the-air updates.· more· less

Common Problems
First-generation platform with software teething issues but solid hardware
The Smart #3 is too new for long-term mechanical failure data, but the underlying Geely SEA platform and NMC battery pack show no signs of fundamental drivetrain problems. The main ownership frustrations are software-related: infotainment bugs, charging compatibility, and ADAS false alerts — all being addressed through OTA updates. The flush door handle issue is a known early-production defect that Smart is fixing under warranty. The HV battery and seatbelt recalls have been handled proactively. For a first-generation product from a relaunched brand, the hardware reliability is encouraging, but buyers should expect occasional software frustrations.

Corrosion perforation warranty (12 years) Covers rust-through of body panels, unlimited mileage.
